I read an article that said companies using generative AI ads may be just a part of their strategy for additional media hype. The unfortunate genius of using generative AI advertising is that they induce so much rage that they get reshared virally. #infamyplaybook
By right do you mean ethical? Yes that’s always going to be a dilemma; like choosing between protecting a rare species of owl and protecting the jobs of people who rely on logging. I think AI can be used ethically although clearly Coca-cola has not done that given that they have maximized corporate profit benefits without any benefit to the humans that consume the products. And then there’s choosing to use publicity for personal fame and gain. Seems like the US president may be using this tactic. I say skip it, drink water, save your teeth and avoid diabetes.
Their net income has fluctuated and it’s still around $10 billion but for a company that’s accustomed to consistent growth, it may be due in part to bad publicity — health issues caused by consuming their products.
I think that in the case of coca-cola’s AI produced ad it’s not likely to hurt their bottom line, given that they started using AI in their 2023 ads and continue to do so. If they were affected by the negative publicity they would switch gears, no?

The ‘no such thing as bad publicity’ principle - I can’t decide whether I think that’s right or not.

Actually by ‘right’ I meant ‘I can’t decide if that’s the case or not’ as in i do think there are times when ‘bad publicity’ is bad.

Their net income has essentially been flat since 2023. Maybe it’s connected?
